Make Extra Money Online - Tips for Success

Every year it is becoming increasing popular to make extra money online. Surfers are continuously battered with messages claiming that they can quit their day jobs and work at home on the internet. However many who buy into the idea that they can make extra money online are leaving with a sour taste in their mouth. Why are so many failing?

While the notion that one can make extra money online continues to gain popularity so does the amount of con-artists who see this as an opportunity to take advantage of an ever growing trend. Does this mean that you can't make extra money online? Certainly not. However you will need to proceed with caution if you wish to become successful.

3 Tips to Make Extra Money Online

1. Develop a plan and decide how you are going to make extra money online. The reason so many are failing is that they do not have a plan and are aimlessly searching for an easy way to make extra money online. This makes them prime targets for scam artists.

If you don't know where to start I suggest doing some research on ways to make extra money online. Learn about the different things people do to earn money online and decide which ones you like. Locate reliable sources that can teach you further how to make money using your chosen plan.

2. Once you have a plan in mind you should consider seeking out reliable sources that can teach you further how to make extra money online. Finding a mentor can greatly reduce the learning curve and improve your chances of having success. Many of the people who are failing are doing so because they are making fundamental mistakes with the strategies they are implementing.
A trustworthy money making program will have a support system in place for their clients. Make sure you take advantage of this. Not doing so is foolish and will only deter you from creating the success you deserve.

3. Even more important than finding a good teacher or support group is taking action. If you really want to make extra money online you will have to take it upon yourself to make it happen. There is no such thing as a do nothing get rich quick scheme that is going to make you millions. You can make extra money online, and a great deal of it, but how much depends on the amount of work you are willing to put in.

Be consistent with your efforts. Do not work hard for a week and then slack of because you aren't seeing any results. It takes time to build momentum on the internet but once you do the effect will snow-ball as long as you have been consistent in your actions to make extra money online.

How to Make Money Online with Elance

Do you write? Can you string together words and sentences – like this? Would you like to make a few extra bucks (maybe more…) without the hassles of a traditional job? You would? Then welcome to the wonderful world of freelance writing on Elance.

-- What is Elance?

Elance is a website forum, a marketplace that allows people from all over the world to actively participate in buying and selling their products and services. As a freelance writer you can offer your writing services with very little effort on your part. If you can surf the web, use email and generally communicate in English (yup, it’s the principal language used on Elance) then you are pretty much good to go.

-- How Does It Work?

It’s quite simple; Elance is a subscription based website that charges you a small fee to become a member. At the time of writing basic monthly subscriptions begin at $30. Once you’re registered you can browse all the active (open) projects and bid on the ones that interest you. As a member you can even set up a personal store front (profile) and showcase your products and services to potential buyers (and it’s not unusual to get direct enquiries from buyers this way.)

-- If Your Bid Is Chosen

If your bid is selected you will get the chance to decide if you want to proceed with the project or not. If you decide to go ahead then you and the buyer enter into an agreement (Elance provides templates and samples at no charge.) You provide the services to the buyer and the buyer pays you what they promised – simple.

Elance gets a small commission on all projects that are awarded. But don’t worry, there is no cost to you for winning projects – that’s the buyers responsibility and the buyer will be billed directly (it doesn’t even come out of the agreed project payments!)

-- So How Much Work Is Available To You?

That’s a good question; after all if you are going to spend at least $30 a month on a basic subscription, you really need to figure out if the subscription is worth it. The number of open projects varies, however it’s not unusual to find between 150 and 200 writing projects available at any given time.

-- And How Much Are These Projects Worth?

There are currently two types of project postings on Elance: BASIC and SELECT. If you have only chosen a basic membership then you can only bid on Basic projects. You will need a Select membership to bid on the select projects.

And the reason you would buy a select membership is simple – select projects pay more, are less likely to end without being awarded (yes there are people on Elance who post projects to “get a feel for the market” and have no intention of actually awarding the project!)

So back to the main question – how much are the projects really worth? Again, this data varies over time (I cover this and more in my new report on www.ElanceExposed.com), however here’s a quick ‘rule of thumb’ that I’ve found to be fairly accurate: If you multiply all the number of open projects by $250 and multiply that again by 70% you will get a fairly good idea.

For example, 200 open projects X $250 X 70% = $35,000

-- But What About the “Big” Projects?

There are big projects on Elance, they get posted infrequently but they are available. As you might imagine these projects are usually posted by companies – not people – and they usually pay 5 to 10 times what a regular project pays. With this kind of payout you can imagine the competition is quite high, however pitching to a business is not the same as pitching to a person.

-- What About Gotchas And Other Issues?

There aren’t too many. The biggest one that springs to mind is that Elance currently does not offer a refund policy on their subscriptions. You actually have to get on board and sign up to get a feel for the Elance market. And to be quite frank, you really need to give yourself a fighting chance and sign up for three months.

If you signed up for a three month Select membership you would currently pay $150 USD. That’s not a huge amount of money, but it is a bit steep if you find out that Elance is not for you.

-- Here Are a Few Elance Quick Facts:

* 100,000+ potential buyers visit Elance Online every week
* Web's #1 consulting site and top 1,000 most visited site
* Awarded Best of the Web by Forbes (2003)
* Reliability Certified by the Better Business Bureau

-- And Here Are a Few Neat Benefits of Using Elance:

* Easily market yourself to a global pool of prospective clients.
* Pitch your services at prices you establish.
* Make a profit as an independent consultant.

It’s true, thousands of service firms and individuals take advantage of Elance as a marketing channel. And Elance actively supports your efforts with aggressive online and offline marketing delivering high volumes of traffic.

-- Remember, You Can Win Work 3 Different Ways:

(1) Answer the phone after people check out your online profile and work samples.
(2) Develop pre-priced ‘buy now’ packages that buyers can purchase instantly.
(3) Bid on projects – many buyers post their requirements directly online.

-- Conclusions

Before you dive into Elance you might want to do some digging on the Internet to get a feel for what others have experienced. For instance you might want to find out more about the bid success ratios, the real differences between Basic and Select projects, how many projects will pay you more than $1,500 and so forth.

You can make money on Elance if you know what you are doing, and quite frankly all it takes is a little time and patience. Good luck, and happy bidding!

Do you have a plan?

Do you have a plan or are you just randomly running around trying to find something that will work for you? You need to have a plan and you need to know why you are doing what ever it is you are doing.

Motivation is the key factor that makes everything in this world happen. Motivation makes babies (even if they are not the final goal!). Motivation creates works of art. Motivation gets great books written. Motivation...can make anything happen. The question is are you motivated?

If you're reading this blog, chances are you are motivated to quit your day job. You are motivated to find a profitable Internet income. But what kind of profitable Internet income? Do you care? NO? Long as it makes you money right? In that case, money is your motivation. That's not a bad thing - money has been the motivation for many things in the past and will continue to motivate people. Just don't let it motivate you to rip people off and we'll stay on good terms.

You can find a profitable Internet income doing anything that you enjoy though. You don't have to just think of it as a way to make money. That's where the plan comes in.

Say you like to bake. So bake. But let the Internet bring in all the customers you could ever want. The key is having a presence on the Internet that will be seen by your target market. You're likely not going to sell baked goods on eBay or to people who live on the other side of the country. So focus your Internet marketing strategy on the town or city that you live in. You think people don't use the Internet to find things in their own town? You're wrong. People are using the Internet for more things than you can imagine and finding services is one of the big ones.

Get a web site or a blog. Write in it regularly. Use keywords that will help people find you in search engines.

Every city has websites that offer forums and communities. Most of these forums and communities allow you to place a link in your profile. Sometimes you can place a link in your signature. You can get involved without advertising. Every once in awhile throw something relevant out there about your business. People will come to you.

This is only an example and only the beginning. There are many more things you can do. They key? Figure out your motivation and get a plan. Then put your plan to work. Learn every single day about ways to make your plan work better.

What's your plan?

Watch out for the Scams!

If your dream is to make a profitable internet income, you've likely been looking at some of these ads and thinking "What does it hurt to try?" But it does hurt to try. Why? First, because you lose money. Second, because THEY make money and if they are making money they'll keep doing it, thus scamming more people. So, yes, it hurts you and it hurts those that follow in your steps.

Be aware of what the scams are.

A good place to start is ScamBusters. They have a great piece on the Top 10 Work at Home Scams. Go read it now!

"Make Money Doing Data Entry From Home!"

Have you seen this in some of the help wanted areas - mostly craigslist I must admit but in other places as well. Usually if you respond to one of these ads they'll tell you that all you are doing is filling out forms online and that you'll be paid $10-20 per form. Each one takes about an hour's work I was told. It seems like something anyone can do. But it is very vague. Finally, they tell you that there is a one time administration cost of $14.95 (or $12.95 or anything up to $20) for the cost of training materials and setting you up and so on.

You know, in my heart I knew that this was just not right. What the hell kind of training materials could there really be? Why should they cost anything when you are receiving them online. Did I listen to my gut though? Nope. I just had to try it. I just had to receive those training materials and find out what this was all about. I wanted it to be a legit job so badly. I wanted to earn $10-20/hr from home! I have a couple kids that are pretty much all my responsibility and I tell ya, the extra income would have come in handy.

So, I sent off for it.

The next day, in my email was the "training materials". Turns out that these "data entry" jobs (sometimes also advertising for "typists") are doing the same damn thing! They want you to go out now an place these same ads all over the bloody place and con people just like you who want to make a little bit of honest money from home on their computer.

I thought about it but I simply couldn't do it. I actually even place a few ads. I got some responses and then I felt so bad about trying to screw these people over that I pulled all the ads and closed the hotmail account that I had opened just for this scam. I lasted about an hour before I became human again.

I regret like hell that I sent in that money, but I don't regret that I never put those training materials to use!

Welcome
